Opus 800 - Grand Cathedral Spectacle

Breadcrumb

From July 3 to August 30, to celebrate the 800th anniversary of the founding of the Œuvre Notre-Dame, come see “OPUS 800,” the spectacular summer show projected onto the west facade of Strasbourg Cathedral.

The show

Created in collaboration with Passe Muraille and AV Extended, the show “OPUS 800” combines architectural projections, lighting effects, and original sound design.

The show’s six acts present the iconic Strasbourg Cathedral as a living work of art, continually shaped by materials, time, and the hands of the artisans of the Œuvre Notre-Dame, both past and present.

This is not a traditional story being told to you, but rather a sense of an ongoing process of transformation—from raw stone to the passing down of craftsmanship over the centuries. Here we celebrate eight centuries of a work that is never finished: the construction, maintenance, and preservation of Strasbourg Cathedral.

And throughout the summer, enjoy an installation on display daily on the cathedral’s forecourt, where you can view, at eye level, fragments, casts, sculptures, and other elements from the restoration work that are usually hidden from public view.
